We took part in the 5000 Flowers to 5000 Female Leaders initiative organized by Advocates of Silenced Turkey (AST). To make the mother’s day meaningful, our volunteers wrote letters narrating the tragic stories of the oppressed mothers in Turkey. These letters were sent to the prominent female community figures.

Silver Sage Foundation volunteers sent their letters to Carolyn Goodman (Mayor of Las Vegas), Susie Lee (the United States Representative for Nevada’s 3rd congressional district), Candace Kant (Professor of History at College of Southern Nevada), and Jacky Rosen (Former Representative for Nevada’s 3rd congressional district).

We hope that these letters will raise awareness on the problems women suffer in the hands of the current oppressive regime in Turkey. We would like to thank AST for this organization and to our volunteers who delicately wrote the letters.

The Radio Talk Show series presented by Silver Sage Foundation and Hosted by Imam Mujahid Ramadan continued with the 6th episode aired on May 1st, 2021. The broadcast was provided by 88.1 Power LV.

In this episode, our guests delved into the topic of hate crimes and how can social efforts could help in this regard. Jolie Brislin from the Anti-Defamation League talked about her organization’s efforts on ending the social injustices and hate crimes. She said that co-operation is vital in solving these problems. She said, ‘we should empower people to speak up,’ because silence only helps to the oppressors and the victims are voiceless.

Hafza Girdap talked about Advocates of Silenced Turkey’s efforts in ending oppressions and inequalities. She also introduced their SetThemFree initiative which is a movement to stop the unfair imprisonments all around the world and especially Turkey. She shared the number of people persecuted wrongly. And those numbers were quite alarming.

The Acting U.S. Attorney for the District of Nevada, Christopher Chiou talked how Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is pro-active in terms of ending the hate crimes. He stated that Las Vegas has lower number of hate crimes as LVMPD is actively co-operating with minorities. He gave the example of LVMPD’s efforts after the Atlanta shooting in which police officers visited the Asian communities and reassured them that they are safe and welcomed.

It was a very uplifting discussion as we see how organizations are working hard to end the injustice and hate crimes in the USA. We also learnt that most of the government officers are also in this effort.

We would to thank Imam Ramadan and his valued guests for this thought provoking discussion. Also special thanks to KCEP Power LV 88.1 for allowing us to broadcast these series on their platform.

Silver Sage Foundation distributed iftar meals around 130 people at Masjid Al-Noor. It was a beautiful event of friendship and faith as Las Vegas Muslims gathered together to break their fast and share the Ramadan spirit. It was especially a refreshing moment for the participants as the pandemic has been preventing such gatherings for a long time. We paid utmost attention to follow the social distancing regulations, but there were heartfelt discussions and friendly exchanges during the evening nevertheless.

We would like to thank Masjid Al-Noor and Islamic Information Center for allowing us to organize this event. We thank everyone who came to eat with us and brought joy to the event. Finally, a special thanks must be given to our volunteers who prepared the meals in their homes. They were quite delicious!

It was a delightful event to exchange understanding and love. Joseph Lombardo the Sheriff of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and Christopher Chiou the Acting US Attorney for the District of Nevada both gave their heartfelt thanks to our dialogue and charity efforts. We organized a bake sale fundraiser to raise money to be used in helping the oppressed women in Turkey. To celebrate the International Women’s Day, Silver Sage Foundation’s distinguished members prepared a variety of delicious meals.

Our stand was opened at Anthem Hills Park on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Our volunteers and customers paid great attention to social distancing regulations.

All money will be sent to Turkey and it will be distributed to the women in need as the Turkish government keeps 1000s of people in jail or purged from their job, leaving them in desperate need for financial support.

Our Silver Sage Foundation community got together and made a silent march on Las Vegas Strip to support the women rights and celebrate the International Women’s Day. We marched for the women of the world, especially for the women who are suffering in the Turkish prisons under Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s oppressive regime.

It was a joint effort all around the USA organized by AST (Advocates of Silenced Turkey). Since the alleged coup attempt in July 2016, more than 5000 women have been jailed. 600 were detained and 100 women have given birth in prison. There are currently 780 children prisoners accompanying their mothers.

Women’s rights have been ignored and violated by the Turkish authorities systemically. Many women in custody were subject to strip searches. They were asked to undress and squat while naked, sometimes with cameras present.

As Silver Sage Foundation, we want the end of all unfair treatment towards women all around the world. In this regard, we will raise our voice as much we can.

Keith Hess, Professor of Philosophy at the College of Southern Nevada gave a Zoom lecture to our community on February 8th. In his presentation, Prof. Hess depicted a detailed picture of Messiah according to the Christian point of view.

Hess shared exempts from both The Old and The New Testaments on how Jesus becomes the Messiah. He also gave attention to the other messianic prophecies related to the subject.

After the lecture, the meeting’s moderator Dr. Rosalie Marinellu and some of the other listeners made insightful comments and asked crucial questions. As Hess replied to those remarks, the discussion became even more fruitful and gave each of the listeners a new perspective on the subject of Jesus as the Messiah.

We would like to thank Prof. Hess for the lecture and for his time. Also a special thanks to Dr. Marinellu for her lively and heartful moderation, even though she shared the job with an unwilling Mukaddes Kocabiyik who also made a tremendous job organizing the event along with Dr. Asim Cengiz.

Stay tuned to our website and social media channels as we plan to turn this lecture into a series of Zoom lectures with various topics presented by the experts in their fields.
