Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) held a multicultural gathering event for the month of Ramadan and Silver Sage Foundation was the food supplier for the event. It was a delightful event to exchange understanding and love. LVMPD officers and community members gave short presentations on the matters of intercultural relationships and unity in Nevada, specifically Las Vegas.

Joseph Lombardo the Sheriff of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and Christopher Chiou the Acting US Attorney for the District of Nevada both gave their heartfelt thanks to our dialogue and charity efforts. They told that they want to pay our foundation a visit at our location as soon as possible.

We would like to thank LVMPD for organizing this meaningful event. Also a big thanks to our volunteer members who prepared some delicious meals for the gathering.

The Radio Talk Show series presented by Silver Sage Foundation and Hosted by Imam Mujahid Ramadan continued with the 5th episode aired on April 3rd, 2021. The broadcast was provided by 88.1 Power LV as usual.

In this episode, the discussion revolved around the upcoming month of Ramadan and fasting. Ramadan’s guests were Dr. Dood Hyer, Amr Hosny, and Imam Abdel J. Nuriddin PhD. In the 1-hour long show, the guests talked about the importance of fasting and the spirit of Ramadan.

It was a remarkable discussion to learn that all of the major religions practice fasting a different ways. The speakers emphasized on the health benefits of fasting. It was also noted how fasting brings a person closer to God. It was also stated that fasting is a helpful activity to encourage people to pay attention on charitable efforts as it allows one to feel the sense of hunger properly.

Keith Hess, Professor of Philosophy at the College of Southern Nevada gave a Zoom lecture to our community on February 8th. In his presentation, Prof. Hess depicted a detailed picture of Messiah according to the Christian point of view.

Hess shared exempts from both The Old and The New Testaments on how Jesus becomes the Messiah. He also gave attention to the other messianic prophecies related to the subject.

After the lecture, the meeting’s moderator Dr. Rosalie Marinellu and some of the other listeners made insightful comments and asked crucial questions. As Hess replied to those remarks, the discussion became even more fruitful and gave each of the listeners a new perspective on the subject of Jesus as the Messiah.

We would like to thank Prof. Hess for the lecture and for his time. Also a special thanks to Dr. Marinellu for her lively and heartful moderation, even though she shared the job with an unwilling Mukaddes Kocabiyik who also made a tremendous job organizing the event along with Dr. Asim Cengiz.

Stay tuned to our website and social media channels as we plan to turn this lecture into a series of Zoom lectures with various topics presented by the experts in their fields.

Silver Sage Foundation’s Teen Project Unit did not stay idle during the holidays and kept working hard on humanitarian efforts. Several teenagers from our high school members prepared home-made noodles and delivered them to Las Vegas and Henderson residents’ doors. In return, they collected donations for the Yemeni people who are fighting against starvation.

The donations were made through Embrace Relief’s ‘Donate for Food Distribution in Yemen’ initiative. The dire situation in Yemen calls for urgent support from all around the world as people are struggling to find food and shelter in the civil-war ridden country. You can make your own donations via the link below:

We applaud our young volunteers and their mentors on this valiant effort. Further thanks to our generous donors as we wish them happy meals with those heart-poured noodles.

In the light of Christmas season, we held a Zoom meeting to remember Mary, the blessed mother of Jesus. Las Vegas Epiphany Episcopal Church and Silver Sage Foundation members came together to read poems about Mary and discuss the most honorable mother’s life.

Dr. Zeki Saritoprak visited the meeting as a special guest and shared his valuable knowledge on Jesus and Mary in the Quran and hadith. Meryem Mikesa, Marlyn Buckley and Rosalie Marinellu also granted everyone some new perspectives on Mary with their stories from both Muslim and Christian traditions. We got to know more about her importance as one of the strongest women figures in history. And it was once again proven that there are so many common things in both religions.

We would like to thank Mukaddes Kocabiyik and her team of Silver Sage volunteers on organizing this beautiful and meaningful event. And a special thanks to our Teen Project youth for their beautiful poem recitations and to all who participated.

Imam Mujahid Ramadan, Dr. Daniel W Skubik and Dr. Zeki Saritoprak came together to discuss on the roots of Sufism and its significance on the contemporary world. The discussion is available on our Youtube channel.

Dr. Skubik started the discussion as he talked about the pre-Islamic background of Sufism in Jewish and Christian traditions. Dr. Saritoprak moved on with the Islamic background of this school of thought. Then both academics gave plenty of valuable insight as Imam Ramadan directed the discussion with his questions and remarks.
