What a great day our volunteers had! It’s great to see our volunteers and others coming together to participate in the Ponderosa Planting event organized by the Southern Nevada Conservancy at Mt Charleston. Silversage Foundation volunteers planted over 100 ponderosa trees which is a significant contribution to the preservation of nature in our area.
Taking action to protect the environment is crucial for the well-being of our planet and future generations. By planting trees, we are not only helping to beautify the landscape but also playing a vital role in combating climate change, providing habitats for wildlife, and improving air quality.
Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) emphasizes the importance of planting trees and caring for the environment by saying: Even if the resurrection were established upon one of you while he has in his hand a sapling, let him plant it. It encourages individuals to take responsibility for nurturing and preserving nature, even if they were in the midst of a significant event like resurrection.
Thank you to all of our volunteers! Thank you Southern Nevada Conservancy for organizing the tree planting event.
Keep up the fantastic work folks!!

We had a wonderful interfaith iftar dinner on the 27th night of Ramadan, which is Laylat Al Qadr a.k.a. Power of Nights. The event was hosted at LVMPD Summerlin Area Command by the collaboration of LVMPD Summerlin Area Command and Silver Sage Foundation.

This Power of Night Iftar dinner event brought people from different faiths and backgrounds together to share a meal, break bread, and learn from one another. While Summerlin Area Command hosted the event, the volunteers of Silver Sage Foundation set up the tables, room, and prepared the delicious meal.

The event started with the welcome speech by Kevin McMahill, the LVMPD sheriff. Sheriff McMahill thanked all the participants and the volunteers of Silver Sage Foundation for being the co-host of the event. Dr. Ali Shehata talked about the Laylat Al-Qadr. Later, participants watched a short video about Ramadan and listened to the “call for adhan” to break their fast.

We believe that events like these are essential in fostering mutual respect, understanding, and appreciation among people of different backgrounds. We hope that this event will serve as a platform for meaningful connections and conversations that will contribute to building a more inclusive and united community.

We, Silver Sage Foundation, want to express our deepest gratitude to all who attended, and to the volunteers who prepared delicious food. Your commitment to fostering understanding and goodwill across communities is amazing.

The Silver Sage Foundation – Reno Office and the University of Nevada – Reno Rumi Club held their annual Ramadan Iftar Dinner on Saturday evening, April 15, 2023, and approximately 130 people gathered at the McKinley Arts & Culture Center in Reno.

The dinner was an opportunity for the Northern Nevada community members to join their Muslim friends for an evening meal as they break their Ramadan fast. The event included a traditional Middle Eastern Turkish dinner.

The guest list included Assemblywoman Angela D. Taylor, Ph.D., Cynthia Esparza, M. Chief Equity and Community Relationships Officer from the City of Reno, on behalf of Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Ralph Caldwell, and people of diverse faiths and backgrounds attended the annual Ramadan dinner.

The event started with short presentations by community peacemakers about the holy month of Ramadan and its meaning for the community. Before breaking the fast, a call to prayer, “Adhan,” was announced with its meaning in the subtitles on the screen. Assemblywoman Angela D. Taylor, Ph.D., made the closing remarks.

Due to the overwhelmingly positive response, Silver Sage Foundation – Reno Office will continue these interfaith efforts and publicize future events among faith and peoples in the Northern Nevada area.
